Because the Branches of AFCEA in the UK are non-profit making
organisations, they are committed to donating the excesses of income over expenditure
on the major events they organise to charity.
One of the aims of AFCEA International is to sponsor education
in appropriate topics and to reward scholarship by student and post-graduate
student members of the Association. Because we are proscribed by US law from
participation in the AFCEA International Scholarships, AFCEA (UK) have chosen
to do this by establishing an Academic Trust. The Trust was set up in the late
1980s with donations from corporate members and from Branches.

On 17 Sep 09, Air Cdre Bruce Wynn OBE FBCS CITP RAF (retd),
one of the Trustees, presented the 2009 AFCEA Academic Trust award for the
top student on the GCHQ Terrestrial Radio Signals Development Course to Sgt
Andrew Campbell RAF (right), at a small presentation ceremony held in the
training facility in Scarborough |

The Academic Trust -
Registered Charity No. 299070
History: The Trust was established in 1987 and registered
that year with the Charities Commission. In 1997 the Trustees reassessed the
original object of supporting a single degree course at RMCS Shrivenham and
concluded that this was too limited. With the agreement of the Charities Commission
the objects were amended to included CIS courses in all three Services and in
other establishments.
The Objects of this Charity are:
"To advance education in defence communications, electronics
and information technology; initially by the support of the degree course in
Command, Control, Communications and Information Systems at the Royal Military
College of Science, Shrivenham and similar courses in such other establishments
as the Trustees may so decide."
