AFCEA (UK) is a self contained part of the wider organisation
with its own Regional Vice President
(e-mail rvp@afcea.org.uk) and consists
of four Chapters: London, UK Southern,
UK West and Croughton.
The London Chapter of AFCEA
was founded in 1954 by USAF personnel in the UK. Subsequently, it met in and
was administered from the US Naval Headquarters in North Audley Street near
to the US Embassy in Grosvenor Square. The Chapter has now developed in line
with the specific character and needs of the UK C4I community. Its
management is entirely in the hands of UK personnel but visitors from AFCEA
world-wide are frequently welcomed to Chapter meetings which usually take placeon
the 1st Thursday of each month in Central London. Details of the meetings are given in the programme
of events published each year in September.
The UK Southern Chapter was
formed in 1988 and quickly established itself, being recognised by AFCEA International
Headquaters in 1991 with the Harry C Ingles Award for 'Best Small Chapter' and
in 1993 with the Albert J Meyer Award for 'Achievement'. Membership comes from
all three Services, the DERA establishments and the defence companies in the
South of England. There is a varied lecture and visit programme
throughout the year.
The UK West Chapter was formed
in 1988 as Wessex Chapter. In January 1993 it moved and was renamed UK West,
and was presented shortly after with the Albert J Meyer annual award for recruiting
the most individual members. The Chapter has grown by 85% since 1993, with membership
mostly drawn from all types of commercial companies, with a growing proportion
now from Government establishments, a reasonable number of Servicemen, and many
retired officers in commercial companies. The UK West Chapter, unlike many around
the world, concentrates in maintaining a lecture programme
and discussions based on no more than one third defence related matters, one
third commercial and one third general interest.
The Croughton
Chapter was formed in 2001, as the result of renewed interest at RAF Croughton
