Mission

The Young AFCEAN Advisory Council (YAAC) serves AFCEA by respresenting the young members of the Association - 35 years of age and under. The YAAC supports the overall AFCEA vision by promoting professional development of the young members and providing representation on the AFCEA Board of Directors and committees.

Composition

The Young AFCEAN Advisory Council shall consist of a Young AFCEAN representative from each region, and Young AFCEAN members-at-large. Each region representative will be appointed by the Regional Vice President (RVP). The members-at-large will be appointed by the Director of Member and Chapter Services. Each representative must be an AFCEA member who has been active in AFCEA affairs and who is under 35 years of age at time of appointment. Representatives will serve for approximately two years. This term may be extended at the discretion of the RVP. As of June 1995, a special YAAC representative for the two largest chpaters (NOVA and D.C.) was established for the "Capitol Region".

Organisation

The Young AFCEAN Advisory Council will form its own internal structure and committees as needed. A president of the YAAC will be elected by the council every two years. At a minimum, one member will be designated by the Council to represent the YAAC during meetings of the Board or Directors as a voting member. The Director of Member and Chapter Services will provide administrative support to the YAAC; (e.g. preparing for meetings, maintaining membership rosters, etc.). However, the YAAC shall have access to any member of the AFCEA International staff in order to present ideas or request information on AFCEA policy or activities.

Meetings

The YAAC shall meet at least twice a year. Two primary meetings will be held during the January Western Conference and the June International Convention. A quorum will consist of a minimum of seven YAAC members.

Responsibilities

The following outlines the responsibilities of the individual members of the YAAC:

Recommend new policies, programs, and/or initiatives to the AFCEA International staff to improve the ability of AFCEA to meet its general objectives. Such recommendations will focus primarily on the perspective of the young members of AFCEA.

Establish and oversee a Young AFCEAN program in each AFCEA region. Each YAAC member will be responsible for the region from which he/she is appointed. In managing the region program, the YAAC member will:

Work with the RVP to garner support for Young AFCEAN initiatives. Provide feedback to the RVP on Young AFCEAN concerns.

Assist the designated Young AFCEAN advisors at each of the region's chapters.

Provide the conduit for information flow between the chapter level and AFCEA International Headquarters.

Attend the two major AFCEA meetings each year - the International Convention and the Western Conference. Members are responsible to ensure an alternate attends in case of the primary's absence to represent their region. In addition to YAAC sessions held during these conferences, the members of the YAAC should attend other convention meetings as invited - those held by the Board of Directors, Council, Regional Vice Presidents,Chapter Officers, and others. These sessions provide the opportunity to voice concerns from the Young AFCEAN perspective when appropriate.

Provide a voting member to the Board of Directors to represent the YAAC.

Provide for the increased participation of young AFCEA members in the full range of AFCEA programs (e.g., technical symposia, professional development, and scholarship programs).

Present YAAC issues to the RVPs as invited during the RVP sessions held at the two major AFCEA annual conferences and the RVP workshop.
